2012 Specialty Crop Block Grant Program

Project Development Workshop Presentation from January 17, 2012 (pdf)

Under the 2008 Farm Bill, the Nevada State Department of Agriculture (NDOA) receives grant funding from the United States Department of Agriculture to enhance the competitiveness of Nevada's specialty crops (fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture, and nursery crops). In order to seek out program enhancing projects the NDOA conducts an annual competitive application process to award grant funds to eligible/top scoring candidates. Deadlines for the 2012 application can be found below.

The SCBGP awards projects that enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops through  research, promotion, marketing, nutrition, trade enhancement, food safety, food security, plant health programs, education, increased consumption, improved efficiency, sustainable farming systems, school garden programs, and product development.  A primary objective of this program is to ensure that more than one individual is benefiting from the project.  There are various previously awarded projects that offer educational workshops, hands-on training, pilot studies, and marketing initiatives that are available to the public.  If you would be interested in receiving notifications regarding these opportunities please contact Ashley Jeppson and you will be added to the contact list.  You will also receive updates regarding upcoming grant deadlines.  We appreciate your interest and look forward to hearing from you.
